Final Thoughts on Season 1

Final Thoughts on Season 1

It’s funny what reviewing something does to your opinion of it. I remembered Season 1 as being kind of wobbly, not quite having found its footing. In my mind, Season 1 was cute compared to the intensity and content of other seasons. In doing so, I forgot about episodes like “Eve”, “Ice”, “Tooms”, and “Fallen Angel,” all of which are very, very good episodes and do a lot to establish main ideas of the series, especially the nature of Mulder and Scully’s relationship.

It’s still awkward, though. It’s still very, very awkward. But that awkwardness is not as detrimental to the overall quality of the season as I initially thought it would be. It can be distracting, but it doesn’t bog the episodes down nearly as much as I thought it would.

In terms of the quality of individual episodes, it’s a mixed basket. We had absolute gems, like “Eve” and “Tooms.” We had moments of brilliance, like “Beyond the Sea.” And then we had terrible episodes, like “Space”, “Shapes”, “Gender Bender”, and “Born Again.”

As I said in “Pilot,” every epic tale must have a solid beginning. Season 1 is our beginning, and though it isn’t perfect, there are some good things that come out of it. And now, as we move forward into Season 2, we’re about to find out that this party is only just getting started.

And with that said, it’s time for the…

Final Score for Season 1

After doing some mathy things, I have managed to calculate the average score for Season 1. (Oh, and just so you know, I suck at all things math, so it’s possible this is very wrong. I’m sure Scully would catch my mistake.)

So I guess the star rating for that would look something like this:

See you all in Season 2! 🙂 It’s been fun.
